Don’t turn Osun into wild wild west, Makinde warns APC

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has warned the All Progressives Congress against destabilising Osun State, urging adherence to the rule of law and cautioning against self-help.

Speaking on Sunday in Osogbo on behalf of the Peoples Democratic Party Governors' Forum, Makinde emphasized the importance of political actors resolving disputes through legal channels rather than inciting unrest. He was joined by Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, Chairman of the PDP Governors' Forum, at the swearing-in ceremony for newly elected local government chairmen in Osun.

The PDP Governors' Forum emphasized the importance of learning from history and avoiding actions that could bring Osun into crisis.

"Osun should not be turned into a battleground over issues that can be resolved by the judiciary," Makinde told the audience.

During his speech, Makinde emphasized the PDP's commitment to governance and peace.

"We don't want Wild Wild West. They should avoid this group. "We just want to deliver dividends to our people in a peaceful manner," he stated.

The Oyo State governor also cautioned against any attempts to undermine legal procedures.

"No one should resort to self-help. Even if you have a court judgment, there is a process. "Let the process play out," he added.

Makinde criticized any potential abuse of federal influence, saying, "You cannot want to propagate the process because of so-called federal might. "This is a federal arrangement.

Makinde urged the APC to allow peace to reign in Osun, insisting that legal procedures be followed when addressing grievances.

"If anyone has a judgment, there is a process for enforcing court decisions. "Self-help is illegal," he explained.

The statement comes amid rising political tensions in Osun. Makinde concluded his remarks by congratulating the newly sworn-in council chairmen.
