Demonstrations erupt over the suspension of eight lawmakers by the Zamfara State Assembly
Constituents of the eight lawmakers suspended from the Zamfara State House of Assembly have peacefully protested against the suspension, labeling it as unjust to the people they represent. Demonstrators gathered outside the Zamfara State House of Assembly complex in Gusau, urging the assembly to revoke the suspension and allow their elected representatives to resume their legislative duties.
During the protest, Saifullahi Abdullahi, the leader of the group, criticized the assembly's decision, calling it undemocratic and emphasizing the absence of representation for their constituencies during the suspension period.
"We have been without our representatives in the House for the past four months, and we feel the impact of their absence deeply. We demand their immediate reinstatement," Abdullahi stated.
He further appealed to Governor Dauda Lawal to intervene in the matter and facilitate the return of their representatives to the assembly.
The eight lawmakers, representing various local government areas including Maru, Bungudu, Bukkuyum, Gummi, Maradun, Tsafe, Bakura, and Talata Mafara, were suspended for allegedly conducting legislative sessions without the presence of the speaker, Bilyaminu Moriki.
