Church building collapses in Benue

The pastor of Dunamis Church, located in Mission Ward North Bank, Makurdi, the capital of Benue State, reportedly lost his life on Monday due to the collapse of the church building. An eyewitness at the scene recounted that, along with the pastor, four other individuals who were engaged in prayer inside the church suffered various degrees of injuries when the building collapsed.

The eyewitness, who identified himself as Nath, explained, "Upon hearing the building collapse, we rushed to the scene to rescue those inside. It took us several minutes to successfully extricate the victims. Regrettably, among them, one person, later identified as the pastor, was found deceased, while four others sustained injuries."

The state's Commissioner of Police, Bartholomew Onyeka, officially verified the incident to reporters on Tuesday. He conveyed, "Indeed, such an incident occurred, resulting in the unfortunate death of one individual during the event. When debris falls on people in such situations, the immediate concern revolves around the well-being of the victims. Thankfully, quick responders managed to rescue four individuals, but regrettably, one person lost their life. The injured individuals are currently receiving medical attention at a hospital where they were transported."
