Cause behind Bobrisky's imprisonment - Reno Omokri

Social commentator Reno Omokri has suggested that there's a deeper reason behind the prison sentence of controversial figure Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, beyond the naira abuse he was convicted of. Justice Abimbola Awogboro of the Federal High Court in Lagos handed Bobrisky a six-month jail term without the option of a fine for naira mutilation. Omokri contends that the Nigerian government utilized the naira abuse charges as a pretext to crack down on the crossdresser.

He stated that the Nigerian government aimed to suppress the growing cross-dressing trend in the country. However, it was cautious due to the potential backlash from Western powers if it took direct action. On his social media platform on Monday, he expressed: "The situation with Bobrisky highlights Nigeria's astuteness compared to other nations and the intellectual approach to governance exhibited by the current administration."

"The Tinubu administration faced a dilemma: how to address Bobrisky's cross-dressing without making it the focal point. This is where the finesse of the Tinubu administration shines through. They devised a clever approach. Bobrisky breached a law regarding Naira abuse. Hence, despite being a first-time offender, and even though similar infractions occurred during Buhari's son's wedding by government officials, Bobrisky pleaded guilty and received a six-month prison sentence."

"In fact, there is ample video evidence of Naira abuse through spraying at the wedding of none other than Abdul Aziz Malami, the son of Abubakar Malami, SAN, Nigeria’s Former Attorney-General and Minister of Justice.
"And the scapegoating of Bobrisky has been effective. Since his arrest, have you noticed any of his 'colleagues' flaunting themselves?
"We used to witness their presence almost daily on blogs and social media. Even the traditional media couldn't get enough of them. But they've taken heed. They've gone into hiding ever since the Chairwoman identified as male in court when asked about 'her' gender."
