The Canadian government has opened its doors to Nigerians and other individuals with specific expertise, inviting them to come over.

Canada has introduced a fresh immigration pathway, welcoming welders, carpenters, and plumbers from Nigeria and various other countries.

On August 1, 2023, Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) issued a statement announcing a streamlined pathway for skilled workers in carpentry, plumbing, and welding.

The Canadian government emphasized its focus on inviting skilled individuals with expertise in trades to address the rising demand for talent and to fill positions crucial for economic growth and advancement.

Marc Miller, the Minister of IRCC, highlighted the importance of addressing the shortage of skilled trades workers in the country. He stated that part of the solution involves assisting the construction sector in finding and retaining the workers it requires to meet its needs effectively.

The statement emphasized that Canada's Express Entry (EE) system has been specifically customized to offer a streamlined and efficient pathway for individuals with expertise in critical fields.

The category-based selection rounds, designed for skilled trades workers, will be ongoing throughout the year alongside general invitation rounds. Further details about these rounds will be released in the upcoming weeks.

The recognition of skilled trades workers as essential in this round of category-based selection was highlighted, and the Canadian government eagerly anticipates welcoming more of these talented individuals to Canada.

Canada is actively seeking to welcome an increased number of skilled workers. This decision follows closely after Sean Fraser, the former Minister of IRCC, unveiled changes to Express Entry (EE) by implementing category-based selection just two months ago.

The new process was introduced with the goal of welcoming newcomers with work experience in priority jobs as permanent residents.

The Express Entry (EE) system is an online platform established by the Canadian government to offer skilled workers from different countries the opportunity to obtain permanent residence in Canada.

According to lawyers at the First Immigration Law Firm in Canada, there are various avenues for professional and skilled workers to qualify for a Canada immigration permanent resident visa.

"The most prominent option is through Express Entry, which serves as Canada's primary pathway for economic class skilled workers. To increase your eligibility chances within this system, you must meet the requirements of either the Federal Skilled Worker Program or the Canadian Experience Class," stated the lawyers.
