Bola Tinubu re-elected ECOWAS chairman
President Bola Tinubu has been re-elected to another one-year term as Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government.Tinubu, whose first term ends on July 9, 2024, was elected by fellow Heads of Government in a unanimous vote at the Authority's 65th Ordinary Session on Sunday at the State House in Abuja.
In his acceptance address, the President stated: "I have accepted to continue to deliver on this service with the great men and women on this democratic journey, to serve our interest and build democratic values on the structure we inherited."
On Saturday night, presidential insiders assured our correspondent that Tinubu may be re-elected.
"Some feel he should hand over, while others believe he should continue. But they'll decide tomorrow," said the source, who asked to remain anonymous since he wasn't authorized to speak on the subject.
Tinubu was chosen Chairman of the Authority at the regional bloc's 63rd Ordinary Session, held last July in Bissau, Guinea-Bissau's capital.
