Apapa Customs revenue hits N1.2tn in seven months – Area Comptroller
The Nigeria Customs Service, Apapa Area Command, has stated that it generated N1.23 trillion in revenue between January and July 2024.According to The Punch, Babatunde Olomu, Customs Area Controller, stated this in a statement on Wednesday.
Olomu also revealed that the command's revenue for July was N202 billion, the biggest monthly collection in the service's history.
According to him, the quantity of money collected in the first seven months of 2024 exceeds that received in the entire year of 2023.
"From January to July of 2024, the Apapa Area Command generated a total of N1.23 trillion. What has been produced so far in seven months exceeds the command's total collected revenue in 2023, which was N1.17 trillion," Olomu stated.
He acknowledged the success to Adewale Adeniyi, Comptroller-General of Customs, who conducted the time release research with the goal of facilitating trade.
Olomu stated that the operation yielded great results, which were reflected in the command's revenue collections.
Olomu expressed confidence in the command's capacity to perform better, saying, "I am optimistic about the possibility of beating this record, which we hope to surpass in the coming months."
"Worthy of note is the interventions from the tariff and trade department, which has contributed immensely to the successes achieved thus far."
The Customs Area Controller emphasised that the command is motivated and committed to exceeding the previous records of revenue collection.
