A Nigerian woman's tragic death by strangulation in the UK is mourned by her family
The family of Taiwo Owoeye, a former ophthalmic nurse at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, expresses deep sorrow following her tragic demise in her Suffolk, United Kingdom home. Taiwo, a mother of three and a nurse in the UK, was reportedly strangled to death by her husband, David Abodunde, on Tuesday, November 28.
Earlier on Monday, November 27, Taiwo had reported an assault by her husband to the police. Tragically, when the police visited their residence the next day, they discovered Taiwo lying motionless on the living room floor. Despite efforts to revive her, paramedics declared her dead at the scene.
Subsequently, Taiwo's husband, who was reportedly inside the apartment with her, was arrested on suspicion of her murder.
The couple tied the knot in 2016, but Taiwo relocated to the UK in 2022, with her husband joining her earlier this year.
In a Facebook post mourning his sister's passing, Alex Owoeye claimed that David was identified as the sole perpetrator following a police investigation.
In an official announcement, he conveyed, "It is with deep sorrow that I inform you of the untimely passing of my dear sister, Nurse Owoeye Taiwo Morenikeji, married to Abodunde David Olubunmi of Ipoti Ekiti. According to Suffolk Police in the UK and the information provided through mailed documents and direct conversations with the UK Police, their thorough investigation determined him (the husband) as the sole perpetrator of my sister's murder, despite being caught in the act."
Owoeye mentioned that the couple's three children were presently under the care of UK social services. He urged family members to remain composed, assuring them that justice would prevail in due time.
On her Facebook page, another relative, Opeyemi Owoeye, expressed, "She was killed by her own husband (Abodunde Bunmi David), no peace for the wicked. Justice for Owoeye Taiwo."
In response to the news of her demise, Olabanji Fabiyi, another Facebook user, expressed profound sadness.
He conveyed, "The recent tragic incident of Taiwo Owoeye Abodunde's murder by her husband in Suffolk, United Kingdom, is truly heart-wrenching. While Taiwo and I weren't extremely close, her late father and mine shared a childhood friendship, and her mother and mine are also good friends, all hailing from Igogo Ekiti. Given her upbringing, it seems implausible that any provocation from Taiwo justified such a brutal act as strangulation. Additionally, the audio clip detailing their interaction before her untimely death suggests the animalistic, barbaric, and uncontrolled nature of her husband."
