A 25-year-old fatally stabs a friend in Kano

Kano State Police Command apprehended Abba Ibrahim, a 25-year-old suspect, for allegedly fatally stabbing 22-year-old Zaharadeen Iliyasi in the neck with a knife. 

Upon receiving information about the incident, the state Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Gumel, ordered the blockade of all entry and exit points in the state to prevent the suspect from escaping.

The statement detailed, "On March 29, 2024, around 10:30 pm, a distress call reported a dispute between two friends at Chiranci Dorayi Quarters Kano. Abba Garba Ibrahim, 25 years old, also known as 'Dan 'Kuda,' allegedly used a knife to stab Zaharaddeen Iliyasu, 22 years old, at the same address, resulting in fatal injuries."

Consequently, Illiyasu collapsed in a pool of his own blood.

Upon receiving the report, the Kano State Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Gumel, instructed the immediate sealing off of the state's entry and exit points to prevent escape. He also deployed police officers, under the leadership of CSP Ya’u Sadiq Abdu, the Divisional Police Officer of Panshekara Division, to the scene.

Upon reaching the scene, Zaharadeen Iliyasu was promptly taken to Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital, Kano. Unfortunately, a medical doctor on duty pronounced him dead. Meanwhile, the suspect, Abba Garba Ibrahim, was apprehended while trying to flee to the Niger Republic.

The situation was promptly contained, and the suspect was transferred to the command’s Criminal Investigation Department, specifically the Homicide Section, for thorough investigation.

During preliminary investigation, the suspect admitted to perpetrating the crime while under the influence of drugs," stated the Commissioner of Police.

The Commissioner assured the public of a thorough investigation and prosecution. He urged residents to cooperate with the police and provide any necessary assistance.

The suspect was reportedly handed over to the command’s Homicide Section for further investigation.
