Trump bans international students entry to Harvard

President Donald Trump has issued an order prohibiting foreign students from entering the United States to attend Harvard University, marking a significant intensification in his dispute with the nation’s oldest university.

In his announcement on Wednesday, the president also authorized Secretary of State Marco Rubio to start revoking the visas of foreign students enrolled at the Ivy League school.

According to President Trump’s announcement, the decision was influenced by Harvard’s refusal to disclose information concerning “known illegal activity” involving its international students.

This order was enacted despite a federal judge’s injunction from May, which prevented the administration from stopping Harvard from admitting international students.

The injunction was issued amid allegations against the university related to supposed antisemitism and civil rights breaches.

Harvard, however, asserts that it has been proactively addressing these issues on its own.

“Gaining admission to the United States to study at an ‘elite’ American university is a privilege, not a right,” Attorney General Pam Bondi stated on X. “This Department of Justice will firmly uphold the President’s proclamation suspending the entry of new foreign students at Harvard University due to national security.”

In reply, Harvard issued a strong statement denouncing the president’s order.

“This is yet another unlawful retaliatory action taken by the administration in violation of Harvard’s First Amendment rights,” read the statement from spokesperson Jason Newton. “Harvard will persist in safeguarding its international students.”
