Northern govs condemn killing of Kaduna travellers in Plateau
The Chairman of the Northern States Governors’ Forum and the Governor of Gombe State, Muhammadu Yahaya, on Sunday, joined the public in denouncing the brutal killing of innocent travelers from Kaduna State in Plateau State.The victims, who were reportedly on their way to a wedding celebration, were ambushed and killed in a brutal manner in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.
In a statement signed by his Director-General of Press Affairs, Ismaila Misilli, Governor Yahaya conveyed his deep sorrow over the loss of life, calling the incident a barbaric and cowardly act that has no place in a civilized society.
“I am profoundly saddened by this shocking and inhumane attack.
“Such senseless violence against innocent individuals is intolerable and must be met with rapid and decisive justice,” the governor stated in part.
He conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the government and residents of Kaduna State, especially to the families mourning the loss caused by the attack.
The governor prayed for the souls of the deceased to find peace and for their families to find comfort during this challenging time.
Yahaya praised the authorities in the Plateau State Government and the security agencies for their prompt response, notably the arrest of individuals connected to the incident.
He called for a comprehensive investigation and swift prosecution of all those responsible to ensure justice is achieved.
“The offenders of this atrocious crime must be held accountable without delay.
“This issue transcends accountability; it is about reinstating trust in the rule of law and safeguarding the rights of every Nigerian citizen,” Yahaya emphasized.
The NSGF Chairman also urged residents of Plateau, Kaduna, and neighboring states to remain calm and comply with the law, advising against any form of retaliation.
Yahaya stated, “Let us not permit the actions of a few disrupt our communities or trigger further violence.
“I encourage everyone to practice restraint and patience as the authorities strive to ensure that justice is served.”
He reaffirmed the Northern Governors’ Forum’s commitment to working together on enhancing security, fostering peaceful coexistence, and tackling the root causes of conflict and insecurity throughout the region.
“The safety and security of our people remain our highest priority.
“We will continue to collaborate as Northern Governors to strengthen community relations, enhance intelligence sharing, and prevent such tragedies from occurring again,” Yahaya concluded.
