FG to train 100,000 artisans in 2025
The Federal Government has announced its intention to train 100,000 artisans throughout Nigeria in 2025 as part of strategies to boost economic growth through skill enhancement.
This announcement was made by Dr. Oluwatoyin Ogun, the Director-General of the Industrial Training Fund, on Tuesday in Akure during the launch of the Association of Nigerian Artisans and Technicians Secretariat in Ondo State.
Dr. Ogun emphasized that President Bola Tinubu's administration is focusing on utilizing the talents of Nigerian artisans to promote national development and establish sustainable livelihoods.
“The Skill Up Artisan Super is a comprehensive initiative introduced by President Bola Tinubu for artisans in Nigeria.
“He aims to ensure that Nigerian artisans are on par with their global counterparts. He is committed to elevating the status of Nigerian artisans.
“He made a promise during his campaign to support and assist you. He is currently fulfilling that promise,” Ogun stated.
He continued, “This is the first instance in Nigeria's history that a president has acknowledged artisans. I urge you all to back this program.
“We initiated the program last year by upgrading 29,000 non-artisans into skilled artisans.
“Now, we intend to advance to training 100,000 artisans. By the grace of God, we aim to elevate their skills to international standards this year.”
He remarked that this is the first time in the country's history that a sitting president is making such a dedicated investment in the artisan sector.
“Last year, we started by transforming 29,000 non-artisans into skilled artisans.
“Now, we are increasing our efforts to train 100,000 artisans to meet international benchmarks, with God's grace,” Ogun reiterated.
Dr. Ogun clarified that the initiative also seeks to eradicate unlicensed practices among artisans by equipping them with proper education and certification to ensure professionalism and enhance service quality nationwide.
“Once the president addresses the issue of unqualified individuals, we will put an end to those practices.
“When artisans begin to reap significant rewards from their hard work, no artisan will resort to riding bikes for income. It will cease on its own.
“The president is determined to put an end to this, and it will be resolved. There will be no more unlicensed practices in Nigeria. All artisans will possess their own practicing licenses.
“There will be respect for labor. Every artisan will be able to confidently represent and uphold their profession,” he added.
