FG launch initiative to train 1,000 Nigerians in AI, blockchain

The Federal Government of Nigeria has established a program to teach 1,000 Nigerians per year in artificial intelligence, blockchain, and other cutting-edge technology.

According to Nairametrics, as part of Nigeria's plan for digital transformation and African leadership, Vice President Kashim Shettima launched the AI Expertise Blockchain and Technology Training and Outsourcing Initiative on Tuesday in Dutse, the capital of Jigawa State.

Shettima added, "We are not just catching up with the rest of the world; we are about to overtake them." This initiative gives its recipients the opportunity to join a global workforce, creating innovation that will impact our future."

He praised Jigawa State for its pioneering role in digital technology adoption, describing the event as "a homecoming ceremony for those who have eased our journey through the Fourth Industrial Revolution."

The Vice President also described the federal government's larger ambitions, noting, "We are adopting this initiative across the nation to create a network of tech hubs that will power Nigeria's economic growth for decades to come."

He praised the collaboration with Gluwa, adding it is consistent with President Tinubu's plans to develop Nigeria's digital technology business.

He acknowledged Gluwa's enormous effect while also praising the firm for enabling Aella Microfinance Bank, which resulted in the release of over N100 billion to two million Nigerians.

Shettima went on: "Our aspiration remains to transform Nigeria into a premier destination for technology outsourcing, creating a model that combines global expertise with local talent."

Meanwhile, Jigawa State Governor Malam Umar Namadi emphasised the project's significance, describing it as a one-of-a-kind opportunity for young people.

He urged the populace to enter the digital world of ICT outsourcing and take advantage of all the benefits it has to offer, particularly the opportunity to generate jobs and contribute to the country's economic growth.

He stated, "The State is endowed with hundreds of thousands of ICT-savvy and qualified youths in various fields of information and communication technology." This is courtesy of our reputable Informatics Institute, which was founded more than two decades ago."

The new project to train 1,000 Nigerians annually is one of the many programs established by the government to boost Nigeria's capabilities in emerging technologies.
