Flights suspended at Berlin airport due to IT issues

Flights were halted at Berlin Brandenburg airport in Germany on Friday morning owing to a "technical issue," a spokesman told AFP, as numerous countries reported huge IT disruptions.

"There are check-in delays, and flight operations have been cancelled until 10:00 a.m. (0800 GMT)," the official said, adding that she couldn't determine when they would restart.

On Friday, a large-scale outage wreaked havoc on Australia's IT systems, with the country's main broadcaster, largest international airport, and a major telecoms provider all reporting troubles.

The outage occurred ahead of the first weekend of school holidays in Berlin, as US tech giant Microsoft announced "mitigation actions" in response to service concerns.


On Friday morning, the UK's largest rail operator issued a warning about possible train disruptions owing to IT troubles.

The Federal Aviation Administration reported that all flights from several major US airlines, including Delta, United, and American Airlines, were grounded Friday morning due to a communication issue.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), ground stops affect all aircraft from carriers, regardless of destination.
