Timi Dakolo shared that his grandparents took care of him after his parents left and disappeared
Renowned Nigerian singer Timi Dakolo has reflected on his childhood, revealing the absence of his parents during his formative years.
During a recent interview on the Tea with Tay podcast, Dakolo shared that, given their youth, his parents left him with his grandmother shortly after his birth.The vocalist mentioned that his parents entrusted him to his grandmother due to their limited resources, making it challenging for them to provide for his upbringing.
"My parents, I don't know why they engaged in intimate relations at such a young age. They were very youthful and didn't comprehend the consequences," shared Timi Dakolo.
"When I was born, they decided to take me to my grandmother's and left because they were too inexperienced and unsure of how to handle the situation. My mother was likely not even 20 years old, and my dad was probably in his early 20s. They were childhood sweethearts, but eventually, they went their separate ways, and my dad returned to Ghana."The singer recounted that during his upbringing with his grandmother, he never experienced a lack of love and care.
"I was raised by my grandmother, and it didn't have any adverse effects on me," he remarked. "I never felt a lack of love, and my grandmother served as my parent, taking care of everything related to me."
Born on January 20, 1981, in Accra, Ghana, Timi Dakolo has roots in Bayelsa through his father and Ghana through his mother.
The artist gained prominence by emerging as the winner of the first season of Idols West Africa in 2007.
