Renowned Nollywood actress Rita Dominic has disclosed the rationale behind her hiatus from the film industry. The veteran actress explained that she stepped away from stardom in 2002 and relocated to the United Kingdom due to personal challenges. During her time in the UK, she transitioned to working as a caregiver for adults with special needs.
Addressing the 2024 Women of Valour Conference in Accra, Ghana, Dominic shared her perspective on her role as a caregiver. She emphasized that, despite some perceiving it as a "step-down," she found immense joy and purpose in caring for others.
Reflecting on a challenging period in her life around 2001/2002, Dominic revealed her decision to step away from acting and leave the movie industry. She relocated to London due to personal difficulties, including strained relationships with friends she considered family. During this time, she decided to take a break from stardom and disclosed a previously untold experience.
While in London, Dominic faced the need to make ends meet and embarked on a journey as a caregiver for adults with special needs in a care home. Despite societal perceptions of it being a downward move, she expressed that the experience brought her profound joy and purpose during a critical juncture in her life.
