Before my leg amputation, I had four surgeries, revealed a TikTok influencer
Aderonke Ajibade, a 24-year-old TikTok influencer known as Sexy One-Legged Babe, has shared the story of how she lost her leg in an accident, undergoing four surgeries in the process.
Ajibade recounted that she initially received the news of her amputation with joy at Igbobi Hospital. Prior to this, she had endured months of pain while attempting traditional remedies for her broken leg. Despite being an indigene of Ilaro in Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State and a former student of Ilaro Polytechnic, her journey took a challenging turn.
She explained, "I took a motorcycle from school to my hostel after class. On the way, a car collided with the bike, shattering my leg. People sought help for me, and I was rushed to Ilaro General Hospital. They proposed amputation, but I resisted, leading us to explore traditional healing methods. Unfortunately, the condition worsened, and my leg began to decay."
"After some time, I observed no improvement in my leg's condition. We proceeded to the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Igbobi, in Lagos State. Arriving there at night, I received the disheartening news that my leg would undergo amputation. Despite feeling lost, I had no choice but to accept my fate. Strangely, deep down, I experienced a sense of relief as I had been enduring pain since the incident, hoping for a chance at a new life.
"I contacted the man responsible for the accident and informed him of the situation. All I wanted was an apology for the ordeal he had put me through. Although he had attempted to contribute to some of my medical bills before reaching Igbobi, he disappeared upon learning about the imminent amputation. Confronted with my old pictures featuring two legs, I faced the daunting prospect of contemplating suicide."
"I found myself in a state of depression, compelled to share the challenges I was facing. I reached out for donations multiple times due to the overwhelming medical expenses. However, the most disheartening aspect was witnessing the departure of those I trusted and cared for, all because of my condition. When I informed my boyfriend, he promptly ended our relationship. While I didn't expect him to continue dating me, his presence and support would have meant a lot. Even my friends distanced themselves, and, truthfully, I comprehend their actions," she expressed.
Explaining her decision to discontinue her education, Ajibade cited the numerous surgeries that compelled her to withdraw from further studies in Ilaro.
She emphasized that this choice led her to acquire skills in hairstyling and the creation of braided wigs for potential clients, all while sharing motivational messages to encourage individuals not to give up, regardless of their circumstances.
In 2023, the Federal Road Safety Corps reported that Ogun State witnessed 707 road crashes resulting in 208 fatalities between January and October of that year.
During a sensitization campaign in the Ota Local Government Area, Sunday Ogungbami, the Ogun FRSC head of operations, disclosed these statistics on behalf of Anthony Uga, the Ogun FRSC sector commander. He added that 1,174 people sustained injuries from road accidents during the ten-month period.
