Pelican CEO named peace advocate

The United Nations-Positive Livelihood Award Centre (UN-POLAC) has appointed Dr. Babatunde Adeyemo, Chief Executive Officer of Pelican Valley Nigeria Limited, as an International Peace Advocate.

Adeyemo announced the appointment on Monday in Abeokuta, Ogun State, and stated that the official ceremony for the presentation of his certificate by UN-POLAC is set to take place on Friday in Lagos.

He explained that the appointment is part of UN-POLAC's activities to commemorate the annual International Day of Multilateralism and Diplomacy for Peace on April 24. The day emphasizes the United Nations Charter's principles of settling disputes through peaceful means.

A letter of appointment signed by UN-POLAC's Director-General, Prof. Halo Eton, explained the significance of the day, stating that it is aimed at reaffirming the UN Charter's principles.

"The day also recognizes the role of multilateral decision-making and diplomacy in achieving peaceful conflict resolution among nations.

The United Nations POLAC Foundation was created as an international autonomous institution following the UN General Assembly, with a mission to select high-profile individuals worldwide to promote peacebuilding and support the implementation of UNDP program initiatives.

The appointment letter added that Adeyemo, who is also an ECOWAS Youth Ambassador and an Anti-Corruption Ambassador, is the promoter of the Okó Opó Foundation, a non-governmental organization that supports widows and underprivileged members of society."
