Jumia Food plans to conclude its exit from Nigeria by the end of 2023
Jumia is set to discontinue its food delivery service, Jumia Food, across all operational countries, including Nigeria, Kenya, Morocco, Ivory Coast, Tunisia, Uganda, and Algeria by the end of December 2023. The company's current focus across its 11 operational nations is on the Jumia Pay platform and its primary physical goods business.
Although Jumia Food contributed 11% to Jumia's Gross Merchandise Value in the first nine months of 2023, the service has struggled to turn a profit since its inception. Despite generating $64 million in food sales between January and September 2023, accounting for 11% of the total $581 million, this figure represents the scale of Jumia Food's operations rather than its profitability.
