Dangote Refinery receives its initial shipment of one million barrels of crude oil

Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals plant has acquired a million barrels of Agbami Crude grade from Shell International Trading and Shipping Company Limited (STASCO).

The aim is to boost Nigeria's internal refining capacity and achieve energy security, ensuring self-sufficiency.

Dangote Refinery released a statement, noting, “The STASCO shipment, comprising one million barrels from Agbami, arrived at Dangote Refinery’s Single Point Mooring (SPM) and was discharged into the refinery’s crude oil tanks.

"The inaugural one million barrels, representing the initial phase of the 6 million barrels designated for supply to Dangote Petroleum Refinery by various providers, is intended to support the initial processing capacity of 350,000 barrels per day at the facility.

"The subsequent four shipments, to be provided by NNPC within two to three weeks, will be followed by the final cargo from ExxonMobil among the six shipments.

"This supply is crucial for the refinery's initial operations and will initiate the production of diesel, aviation fuel, and LPG before progressing to Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) production."

"This recent development is poised to play a crucial role in addressing the fuel supply challenges encountered not only in Nigeria but also in West African countries."

The Refinery further highlighted, "Crafted to process 100% Nigerian crude while also possessing the adaptability to handle other crude varieties, the Dangote Petroleum Refinery, with a capacity of 650,000 barrels per day, can efficiently process diverse African crude grades, Middle Eastern Arab Light, US Light tight oil, and crude from various other nations.

"Dangote Petroleum Refinery is positioned to fulfill 100% of Nigeria's demand for all refined products, including gasoline, diesel, kerosene, and aviation jet fuel, while also generating surplus quantities of each product for export."

"The refinery was constructed to receive crude via its two Single Point Moorings (SPMs) positioned 25 kilometers from the shore and to offload petroleum products through three distinct SPMs."

"Moreover, the refinery can facilitate the loading of 2,900 trucks daily at its truck loading gantries.

"Dangote Refinery is equipped with a self-sufficient marine facility capable of accommodating the world's largest vessels. Furthermore, all products produced by the refinery will adhere to Euro V specifications.

"The design of the refinery aligns with US EPA, European emission standards, Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) emission/effluent standards, and African Refiners and Distribution Association (ARDA) standards."

The President of the Dangote Group, Mr. Aliko Dangote, expressed his delight at achieving this noteworthy milestone.

"This marks a crucial accomplishment for our country, showcasing our capability to conceive and execute substantial capital projects. In the upcoming months, our priority is to scale up the refinery to its maximum capacity.

"I eagerly anticipate the subsequent significant milestone when we introduce the initial batch of products to the Nigerian market."

Likewise, Mr. Osagie Okunbor, the Country Chairman of Shell Companies in Nigeria, commented, "We embrace the initiation of a refinery geared towards manufacturing gasoline, diesel, and low-sulfur fuels for Nigeria and the broader West African region and are pleased to contribute to its realization."
