APM Terminals Apapa: Recycling used lubricants and PPEs

In preparation for International Day of Zero Waste, APM Terminals Apapa has initiated a recycling program for used lubricants and discarded Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including boiler suits and reflective jackets. This effort aims to safeguard the port environment from pollution.

The project is a collaboration with Kevron Consulting, which is certified by the appropriate authority in Lagos State.

Felix Ugwuagbo, the Health and Safety Manager at Terminals Apapa, expressed, "We recognize the importance of responsibly managing the disposal of our used lubricants. Our goal is to prevent environmental harm by ensuring they don't end up polluting waterways or contributing to air pollution through transportation use.

"We've partnered with Kevron Consulting for this purpose. Now, our used lubricants are safely removed from the terminal, treated, and either recycled for other purposes or disposed of safely. The same procedure applies to our discarded PPEs. We encourage our employees to exchange their torn or unusable reflective jackets, boiler suits, etc., for new ones. These discarded PPEs are then collected by a partner organization, washed, treated, and recycled into rags used for cleaning purposes within our terminal."
