Sabalenka defeats Pegula to win first US Open
Belarusian tennis star Aryna Sabalenka defeated American Jessica Pegula to win the 2024 US Open women's title.She won her third Grand Slam title with the victory at the Arthur Ashe on Saturday, adding to the two she won at the Australian Open the previous two seasons.
Sabalenka, who lost the 2023 US Open final to Coco Gauff, easily defeated Pegula in two sets, 7-5, 7-5.
The world number two sealed the 61-minute opener with a feathered backhand drop shot that Pegula chased down but couldn't put over the net to win 7-5.
In a thrilling second set, Sabalenka battled to keep the 30-year-old American from winning again.
The 26-year-old was the first.
