Paul Pogba faces a four-year ban from football

Reports from Italian media indicate that Juventus player Paul Pogba has been handed a four-year football ban following a failed drug test. In September, the former Manchester United player was provisionally suspended due to elevated testosterone levels detected in his drug test. Testosterone, known for enhancing athletes' endurance, was the focus of the random test conducted after Juventus' initial match of the season on August 20, 2023.

Pogba is anticipated to contest the decision made by Italy's national anti-doping tribunal. Consequently, he will be ineligible to partake in any matches until 2027, coinciding with his attainment of the age of 33.

The ban was retroactively applied to the day of the unsuccessful test.

Throughout the initial suspension, Pogba's agent, Rafaela Pimenta, asserted, "It is certain that Paul Pogba never intended to breach any rules."

Pogba was found in violation of regulations due to the presence of non-endogenous testosterone metabolites in the test, indicating an external origin of the substances.

In July 2022, Juventus warmly welcomed back Pogba, a former player of the club, with a four-year contract following his free-agent departure from Manchester United.

During his tenure with the Italian giants from 2012 to 2016, he featured in 178 matches and netted 34 goals.

Since his return to Juventus, the 2018 World Cup winner has grappled with persistent injury problems, leading to his absence from the recent World Cup in Qatar.

In the current season, Pogba has managed only 51 minutes on the field, coming on as a substitute in matches against Bologna and Empoli.

In the preceding season, he amassed a total of 162 minutes in various competitions but failed to score any goals.
