Osimhen sets Super Lig shooting record on Gala debut

Victor Osimhen, as expected, made an immediate impact in the Turkish Super Lig, with seven shots on goal on his debut for Galatasaray in Saturday's 5-0 victory over Rizespor, a Super Lig match record this season.

Despite disappointing moves to Chelsea and Ah Ahly, the 25-year-old made a bold statement on his maiden outing with The Yellow-Reds by providing an assist in their resounding victory in the Game Week 5 fixture at RAMS Park in Istanbul, where Davinson Sánchez, Abdülkerim Bardakcı, Gabriel Sara, Dries Mertens, and Baris Yılmaz took turns to find the net.

Head coach Okan Buruk inserted Osimhen immediately into the starting lineup, and he wasted no time demonstrating his abilities. Throughout the game, his physical presence and quick movements caused problems for the Rizespor defence.

He came close to scoring in the first half, meeting a cross with a powerful flicked header. Abdülkerim Bardakcı provided the final touch, converting Osimhen's goal-bound attempt into an assist.



Aside from the assist, Osimhen's overall performance was impressive. He completed eight of the nine passes he attempted, for a passing efficiency of 73%, with two of those passes resulting in scoring opportunities.

The Nigerian forward had one shot on goal, two off target, and four blocked attempts, demonstrating his willingness to attack despite the Rizespor defence's firmness.

The former Lille player also performed well in duels, winning three of four aerial battles and three of four ground duels. His ability to compete in both the air and on the ground demonstrated his versatility as a forward. Furthermore, he completed all of his dribbling attempts, demonstrating his flair and technique.

While Osimhen missed one big scoring opportunity, his debut performance was a strong indication of what he can bring to Galatasaray in the long run. The reigning CAF Player of the Year showcased his physical prowess, technical ability, and playmaking abilities throughout his 90-minute stint on the pitch.

With Galatasaray looking to defend their title, Osimhen's debut is a positive sign of his ability to lead the club's attack this season.

As the season progresses, Osimhen's strong debut performance will undoubtedly boost Galatasaray's hopes, and fans will be waiting for his first goal in Turkish football.
