Norwich City appoint Jack Wilshere team coach

Former Arsenal star Jack Wilshere has been named Norwich City's first-team coach, the club announced on Wednesday in a statement headed "Jack Wilshere Joins as First-Team Coach."

Wilshere, 32, takes on this new post following a successful tenure as Arsenal's Under-18s head coach, when he guided the team to the FA Youth Cup Final in his inaugural season.

"I'm delighted to be joining Norwich City," Wilshere told canaries.co.uk.

"It is a fantastic opportunity at a very impressive club, and one that has come at the right time to progress my coaching career within a first-team environment."

Wilshere made 197 senior appearances for Arsenal, winning two FA Cups and becoming the club's youngest Premier League début at the age of 16.

He also had loan spells with Bolton Wanderers and AFC Bournemouth, and he then played for West Ham, Bournemouth, and Danish club AGF before retiring in 2022. Wilshere gained 34 caps for England and scored two goals.

Norwich's sporting director, Ben Knapper, voiced his enthusiasm at the appointment, saying: "His personality, knowledge, and experience will all be huge assets for us." Jack has grown tremendously as a coach, and we believe this is a promising next step for both sides."

Arsenal laud the move.
Similarly, Wilshere's resignation from Arsenal was revealed in a statement from the Arsenal Academy, which praised his contribution as a coach.

"Jack's development as a coach over the past two seasons has been really impressive," Academy Manager Per Mertesacker stated.

"He has not only been a role model for our young players but has also demonstrated how to be the best possible person."

Wilshere reflected on his stint as Arsenal's Under-18s head coach, saying, "I've loved every minute..." Arsenal will forever be a part of who I am."

He went on to say that he is proud of the academy's joint work and will continue to support it from afar.

Wilshere is now embarking on the next stage of his coaching career with Norwich City, with the goal of advancing his career in a first-team setting.

According to PUNCH Online on Thursday, Norwich City are currently seventh in the Championship table, seven points behind leaders Sunderland.

The team will aim for a top-three finish to gain promotion to the Premier League in the 2025/26 season.

Johannes Hoff Thorup was named Norwich City's head coach in May 2024. Wilshere will work with Thorup's backroom personnel.
