Mourinho willing to take on struggling English team
Jose Mourinho, the former Manchester United and Fenerbahce coach, has stated that he is willing to coach any team at the bottom of the English league table for two years.Speaking to Skysports after his team shared the spoils with Manchester United in the Europa League on Thursday night, the Portuguese manager said, "The best thing I can do is leave Fenerbahce and go to a club that does not compete in the UEFA competition.
"So, if any club in England from the bottom of the table needs a coach in two years, I'm ready to go."
To vent his frustration after being shown a red card during the game on Thursday, the former Chelsea manager mocked the referee's decision following a heated argument.
"He told us something incredible." He explained that he could see both the action in the box and my behavior on the touchline.
"I congratulate him because he has incredible peripheral vision. During the game, at 100 mph, he kept one eye on the penalty situation and one on the bench and my actions. So that's how he explained it. That is why he is regarded as one of the world's best referees.
Mourinho previously received a four-game European ban for abusing the referee when his Roma team lost the Europa League final to Sevilla in May 2023, and he cited that incident as the reason he would not appeal his red card on Thursday.
"If I appeal, I will receive six months. Since the Sevilla-Roma final, there has been nothing to do.
Christian Eriksen's 15th-minute goal gave Manchester United an early lead, but Youssef En-Nesyri equalized in the 49th minute, heading home unmarked from close range on a cross from Allan Saint-Maximin.
The result keeps Fenerbahce unbeaten with five points from three games, but Mourinho felt his team could have gotten more from the match.
"It would be fair to say that we played an outstanding match and outperformed them, so a good result for Manchester United.
"My boys played a fantastic match. We played against a team that is at a higher level than us. We finished the game with a centre-back at right-back and a right-back at left-back. We had to solve a crazy puzzle, but our performance was incredible, and I couldn't have asked for anything more from the players," he said.
During his tenure at Manchester United, Mourinho led the club to the Europa League title in 2017.
He took the job with Fenerbahce this past offseason.
