Decision on Ten Hag not my call, says Man Utd co-owner Ratcliffe
Jim Ratcliffe, Manchester United's co-owner, has admitted that he is not in the best position to comment on the future of club manager Erik ten Hag.The billionaire believes that the club's management team is in the best position to do so, lamenting the club's decline from its status among European elites.
The Dutch tactician has been under intense scrutiny, with rumours of a possible dismissal from the 'Theatre of Dreams' following disappointing results in club competitions.
Ten Hag took over at United in 2022 and led the team to third place in his first season. He also claimed the EFL Cup.
However, United's games have frequently been criticised by their fans, with some claiming that the Dutch's tactics were only degrading the team.
The most recent of these was the team's 3-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford, followed by Harry Maguire's late equaliser in a 3-3 Europa League draw with Porto.
When asked if he believes in the manager, Ratcliffe told BBC Sports, "I don't want to answer that question."I like Erik. I believe he is an excellent coach, but at the end of the day, it is up to Manchester United's management team to decide how to best run the team in a variety of ways.
"But the team that is running Manchester United has only been together since June or July." [CEO] Omar [Berrada] and [Sporting Director] Dan Ashworth were not present in January, February, March, or April; they arrived in July.
"They have only been there..."You can count it in weeks almost; they haven't been there long, so they need to take stock and make some sensible decisions.
"Our objective is very clear - we want to take Manchester United back to where it should be, and it's not there yet, obviously - that's very clear."
