Executive committee meeting
"This is a critical time for African football, and we are thrilled to be in Addis Ababa to discuss the future of our sport," Motsepe said in a recent statement.
"The EXCO meeting will set the agenda for tomorrow's General Assembly, where key decisions that will shape the next phase of African football will be made."
The Executive Committee meeting kicks off a hectic week in Addis Abeba, as the Ethiopian capital prepares to welcome representatives from CAF member associations, zonal unions, and significant football figures from over the continent.
The sequence of events will conclude with the General Assembly, an annual gathering of African football's key decision-makers.
Ethiopia's Role
Ethiopia will hosting this year's CAF General Assembly for the second time, following the success of the 2017 edition.
According to a Saturday release titled "Ethiopia Ready to Host 46th CAF Ordinary General Assembly," the prestigious event would take place at the Ethiopian Skylight Hotel.
"We are pleased to host this meeting once more. "Ethiopia has a long and proud history with African football, and we are eager to showcase the best of what we have to offer," stated one Ethiopian football official.
Before the General Assembly, the CAF President has been attending zonal union meetings, which began yesterday.
The six zonal unions—WAFU A, WAFU B, COSAFA, UNIFFAC, UNAF, and CECAFA—are holding strategic conversations on the state of football in their respective regions, ensuring that everyone is actively participating in the pre-congress deliberations.
"Zonal meetings are critical for understanding the unique demands of each region. These meetings enable us to delve extensively into the difficulties and opportunities that African football faces at all levels," Motsepe explained.
The CECAFA meeting, which takes place today (Monday), is especially significant because Ethiopia is an important member of this regional group. All others took place on Sunday, with the results yet to be revealed.
Charity match
In addition to the high-stakes games, the week will include a more celebratory side of football, with a friendly match scheduled for Addis Abeba Stadium later today.
The match, which will feature CAF and FIFA officials as well as great African footballers, promises to inject some friendliness into the typically formal proceedings.
"This match is not just a game; it's a celebration of African unity and our shared love for football," stated an Ethiopian Football Federation spokesperson.
As Addis Abeba prepares for an influx of visitors, its rich cultural legacy and vibrant sports scene are on full show.
With key debates regarding the future of African football looming, the stage is set for what promises to be a historic occasion in Addis Abeba.
