President Bola Tinubu has penned a letter to the House of Representatives, urging them to consider the student loan bill.

The letter, delivered by the President to the legislators, was read by Speaker Tajudeen Abbas during Thursday's plenary session on March 14.

In accordance with Section 58(2) of the Constitution of The Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), I hereby submit The Student Loan (Access to Higher Education) (Repeal and Re-Enactment) Bill, 2024 for the thoughtful consideration of the House of Representatives.

The Student Loan (Access to Higher Education) (Repeal and Re-Enactment) Bill, 2024 aims to improve the execution of the Higher Education Student Loan Scheme by tackling issues concerning the management structure of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELF), applicant eligibility criteria, loan purposes, funding channels, and procedures for disbursement and repayment.

"While expecting that this proposal will be promptly reviewed by the House of Representatives, I extend to you, Rt. Honourable Speaker, my utmost regard," read the Speaker.
