Retired police officers plead with Tinubu to exclude pensioners from the contributory scheme

The Retired Police Officers Association of Nigeria has called upon President Bola Tinubu to sign into law the bill known as the "Act To Exit the Nigeria Police Force from the Contributory Pension Scheme."

In a statement released on Tuesday in Abuja, Elder Steven Aiyewumi, the President of ARPON and a retired Assistant Inspector of Police, emphasized the importance of this appeal.

Aiyewumi highlighted the necessity of ensuring that retired police officers receive their entitled benefits without any possibility of misappropriation. He also expressed his appreciation to the 9th National Assembly for their attentiveness and responsiveness to the concerns of the Force.

Their passage and transmission of the bill to the president for his approval demonstrate their commitment to addressing this issue.

Aiyewumi emphasized the urgency by stating, "We join the voices of concerned Nigerians in earnestly appealing to Mr. President to promptly approve the Bill."

He also emphasized the importance of implementing additional policies and programs that align with the present circumstances in the country to enhance the well-being of retired police officers.

In addition to addressing security challenges, Aiyewumi reassured that ARPON would remain steadfast in supporting the Federal Government's efforts to safeguard the lives and property of Nigerians.
