ECWA urges Tinubu on Democracy Day: Expand appointments, don't emulate Buhari

On Democracy Day, the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) appeals to President Bola Tinubu to rectify the wrongs committed by the previous administration, particularly regarding appointments of Ministers, Service Chiefs, and Heads of Parastatals.

ECWA urges President Tinubu to ensure inclusivity for all citizens regardless of their ethnic and religious backgrounds.

Additionally, ECWA appeals to the President to utilize all available means to secure the release of the remaining 97 Chibok school girls, as well as individuals like Leah Sharibu, Alice Loksha Ngaddah, Grace Lukas, Lilian Daniel Gyang, and others still in captivity.

The Church's President, Rev. Stephen Baba Panya, made this appeal on the occasion of Nigeria's Democracy Day.

"Today holds special significance as it marks the first Democracy Day under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, along with the newly elected and sworn-in governors and numerous national and state assembly members throughout Nigeria.

Democracy, by definition, is a government of the people, by the people, and for the people. Therefore, anything less than fulfilling the needs and aspirations of the people who have entrusted these democratic leaders would be regarded as a complete failure."

"As the current administration assumes the mantle of governance in Nigeria, it must prioritize the provision of nothing short of the best for its citizens.

Undoubtedly, the President is well aware that Nigerians are currently enduring immense suffering, stemming particularly from insecurity, widespread destruction of communities, kidnapping, hunger, and pervasive scarcity, among other pressing issues.

He emphasized that corruption has become rampant at all levels, both high and low."

He expressed concern, stating, "Our economy requires a complete overhaul as livelihood opportunities have vanished from various sectors."

"People are anxiously awaiting the prompt fulfillment of numerous promises made by those currently in power during their recent political campaigns," he added.

Therefore, he urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to make every effort to include everyone in the process.

"Leaders at every level must set aside any biases and concentrate on meeting the needs of Nigerians, regardless of political affiliations, ethnicity, religion, or other differences," he advised.

"I also appeal to Mr. President to demonstrate courage and rectify the injustices committed by the previous administration in the appointment of Ministers, Service Chiefs, and other Heads of Parastatals."

He further emphasized, "It is crucial to ensure the inclusion of Nigerians from all ethnic and religious backgrounds."

"On this Democracy Day, which Nigerians are celebrating as the day of self-governance, many citizens are unsure if the government truly represents their interests."

"This uncertainty arises from the fact that their immediate future appears to have been hijacked by merciless killers who have abruptly disrupted their aspirations," he lamented.

"Nigerians are urging the President to take every necessary step to restore joy to those held captive. Our celebration will only be truly fulfilled when those in captivity are liberated, and the perceived safety of others becomes a reality.

"The church fervently prays that this administration will utilize all available means to ensure the safe return of the remaining 97 Chibok school girls, our beloved Leah Sharibu, Alice Loksha Ngaddah, Grace Lukas, Lilian Daniel Gyang, and all others who are still held captive."

"I urge the entire Christendom to uphold the law, foster peace, and embody the true essence of Jesus Christ as ambassadors in every sphere of influence. Let us actively promote harmonious coexistence among all Nigerians.

"As we strive for justice, peace, and fairness in our nation's politics and governance, let us also seek solace and draw strength from the imminent return of our Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ."
