Bode George Open to Collaboration with Tinubu if Consulted
Chief Bode George, Former Deputy National Chairman (South-West) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Expresses Willingness to Collaborate with President Bola Tinubu, Highlighting Non-Personal Nature of Feud.
In a press interaction held yesterday at his office in Ikoyi, Lagos, Chief Bode George, known for his critical stance towards Tinubu, expressed his willingness to collaborate with him for the betterment of the nation, as reported by Leadership.
Despite having voiced his disagreements with Tinubu's governance methods on multiple occasions, the PDP chieftain emphasized that his feud with him is not personal. Notably, he had previously mentioned that he would leave the country if Tinubu were to become President.
Yesterday, Chief Bode George showcased a different stance regarding his disposition. He expressed, "If [Tinubu] comes and engages me, seeking my opinion and collaboration for the betterment of our country, why would I reject it? After all, this nation has also played a significant role in shaping me."
Referring to his extensive military training and global experiences, Chief Bode George emphasized the importance of giving back to the system that had shaped him. He stated, "The military trained me. I have undergone training and exercises worldwide. This country has played a significant role in our development, and it is our responsibility to contribute positively and bring smiles to the faces of the younger generation."
Regarding the prolonged crisis within the PDP, George pointed out that disagreements over the principle of zoning during the presidential campaign had caused divisions within the party. He explained that the idea was to divide Nigeria into six geopolitical zones, with each zone having a fair share of top positions in the country. After eight years, all positions in the north would shift to the south, aiming to address the perpetual dominance of the majority while neglecting the minority.
George contrasted this approach with the initial stance of the APC, highlighting their initial dismissal of zoning. He remarked, "When the APC first emerged, they claimed they did not believe in zoning, disregarding it as nonsense. They said they would not engage in zoning. But now, they have embraced it.
Chief Bode George highlighted the contradictions within the APC party's stance on zoning, citing examples of President Buhari, Vice President Osinbajo, the Speaker, and the Senate President, all hailing from the same region. He attributed this to the major problem that the PDP faced, which led to their downfall.
George expressed that the PDP disregarded the issue and made a mistake by allowing both the national chairman and the presidential candidate to come from the same northern region. He mentioned that when they raised concerns about the exclusion of the South-West in their calculations, they were told to wait until after the elections. Now, the consequences of that decision are evident.
