Zenith bank customers lament maintenance delays, online service disruptions
Zenith Bank customers have taken to social media to express their frustration with online banking transactions.They reported difficulties making payments and using various payment features on X on Tuesday, following the bank's announcement on Saturday that it would be under maintenance from September 29 to October 1.
Zenith Bank announced on Saturday that routine maintenance would begin on September 29 and end on October 1, from 12:01 AM to 5:00 AM.
The "Notice of Routine Maintenance" stated that we are performing routine maintenance on our IT infrastructure to enhance the quality of service we provide to you.
"On Tuesday, October 1, 2024, our Mobile Banking App, USSD Service, Internet Banking, and Corporate Internet Banking platforms will be unavailable from 12:01 AM to 2:30 PM WAT.
"We solicit your understanding and offer our assurances that measures are in place to minimise any service interruptions during the exercise."
Customers, however, reported that, despite prior notification, the bank did not begin the planned maintenance until Tuesday.
Speaking with our correspondent, Olaniyi Oludare expressed disappointment that the maintenance did not begin on Monday, as expected.
Oludare lamented being unable to withdraw funds for food and transportation to his workplace, forcing him to borrow money from coworkers.
"It's frustrating. I haven't eaten since I couldn't withdraw money today (Tuesday). Zenith announced that they would be performing maintenance on Saturday via a pop-up message on the bank app, but they didn't begin until this morning," he said.
Another Zenith customer on X, Adeleye A. P., tweeting as #deji4ever, chastised the bank for not scheduling maintenance during the night, especially at the end of the month when employees are expecting their pay.
#deji4ever wrote, "The worst bank award should go to Zenith. Why are customers denied transfer privileges to other banks on the last day of the month? It's a bad business strategy to keep money from leaving its coffers."
Another user, Dave Oriss, who tweets as #orissonline, added, "#ZenithBank, you should keep frustrating your customers. Some have emergencies, and you're busy rescheduling maintenance."
In response to the outcry on Tuesday, Zenith Bank posted another notification on X, stating that it was performing routine maintenance on its information technology infrastructure.
It stated that the maintenance would take place on Tuesday between 12:01 AM and 2:30 PM.
The statement reads: "Please be advised that we are currently performing routine maintenance on our information technology infrastructure in order to significantly improve the quality of service provided to you.
"On Tuesday, October 1, 2024, our Mobile Banking App, USSD Service, Internet Banking, and Corporate Internet Banking platforms will be unavailable from 12:01 AM to 2:30 PM WAT.
"We solicit your understanding and assure you that measures are in place to minimise any service interruptions during this exercise."
Responding to the statement, X users reiterated that bank maintenance should ideally take place at night rather than during the day when customers are actively using banking services.
A user, Dave, tweeting as #orissonline, wrote, "You people should keep frustrating your customers. Some have emergencies, and you're busy rescheduling maintenance."
Another user, Ken, tweeting as #KennethNnamdiA2, added, "#ZenithBank, I haven't been able to access my account through your app since this morning. Please address your network issues as soon as possible. I have an emergency to attend to. "Thank you."
