X still offline in Brazil as company pays fine to wrong account

Despite complying with the Brazilian Supreme Court's orders, X remains offline in Brazil. According to Reuters, the delay is partly due to the company paying its fines to the incorrect bank.

Following its ban in late August, X appointed a legal representative in Brazil and removed accounts accused of spreading misinformation and hate speech.

The final step for X was to pay about $5 million in fines. In court filings on Friday, X stated that it had made the payments and asked for the restoration of its services. However, Justice Alexandre de Moraes stated that the funds were sent to the incorrect bank, delaying further action until the funds are properly transferred. X insists that it followed the proper procedures for the fines.

The company initially opposed the court's orders, but has since changed its strategy, actively working with Brazilian authorities to restore access to its platform.
