Vitel Wireless obtains NCC allocation for unique mobile number series

Vitel Wireless said it is the first Mobile Virtual Network Operator in Nigeria to be assigned a mobile number series by the Nigerian Communications Commission.

The NCC assigned Vitel the 0712 mobile number series, marking a significant milestone in the country's telecommunications industry.

The company disclosed this in a statement on Thursday.

A mobile number series includes a distinct prefix that identifies an operator within a country's numbering system.

With MVNOs historically subject to stringent regulations, this move could signal a shift toward a more competitive market, resulting in increased investment and innovation.

According to the statement, Vitel's launch as a fully licensed MVNO with its own number series reflects Nigeria's growing openness to competitive and innovative telecom solutions, which will improve service delivery and access.

Kenneth Nwabueze, Chairman and CEO of Vitel Wireless, stated that acquiring a unique mobile number series demonstrates the NCC's trust in the company's vision and readiness to serve the Nigerian market.

He also stated that Vitel has been assigned its own international routing code by the NCC, ensuring seamless global connectivity and allowing the company to provide high-quality international telecom services.

"Having successfully met all government regulatory requirements, Vitel Wireless is now prepared for a smooth market entry and poised to launch innovative, affordable, and customer-focused services across Nigeria," the CEO said.
