US probes engine failure risk in over 870,000 GM trucks
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in the United States has launched a preliminary investigation into more than 870,000 General Motors vehicles, including full-size pickup trucks and SUVs, over concerns about potential engine failure. The investigation focusses on V8 engines in vehicles such as the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickup trucks, as well as the Chevrolet Tahoe, Chevrolet Suburban, GMC Yukon, and Cadillac Escalade SUVs, with model years ranging from 2019 to 2024.
The NHTSA has stated that engine failure in these vehicles may result in a loss of power, increasing the risk of a crash.
The agency has received 39 complaints about the issue, but none of the incidents have resulted in injuries.
Driver complaints indicate a bearing failure, which could cause the engine to seize or a connecting rod to breach the engine block.
According to the NHTSA, there are no warning signs of a defect before the engine fails.
General Motors has not yet commented on the investigation or the reported engine issues.
