Tragically, reports indicate that 15 individuals have been reportedly burned to death in communities

In a recent and tragic incident, a minimum of fifteen individuals have reportedly lost their lives in a brutal attack that targeted the Bwai and Chisu communities within the Mangu local government area of Plateau State. The attack took place on Tuesday, catching the residents off guard while they were asleep. The assailants, described as having stormed the communities, unleashed violence by setting fire to homes and ruthlessly burning occupants alive, while also causing extensive destruction to their properties.

According to a local resident named Bamshak Ishaya, the COCIN RCC Church located in Bwai, situated along the Mangu-Bokkos road, was targeted and set ablaze, alongside numerous houses, vehicles, and tricycles in the downtown area.

Similarly, in the Chisu community, residents were startled by sporadic gunshots, prompting them to seek refuge at the residence of their community leader. Tragically, even the community leader's house was not spared and was engulfed in flames during the attack.

As the search operation persisted, eleven bodies were reportedly discovered on Tuesday morning. The search efforts continued, indicating that the final count was yet to be determined.

Mr. Markus Artu, the Chairman of the Interim Management Committee for Mangu Local Government Area, confirmed the occurrence of the incident during a phone interview with reporters. However, at the time of the conversation, he expressed a lack of specific details regarding the incident.

In his statement, he expressed, "I am currently gathering information and conducting an on-the-spot assessment of the situation. We are receiving conflicting reports. According to the security agencies, there was an attempted attack that was successfully repelled. However, there are differing accounts from other sources. I have heard rumors that the church was targeted but defended, but I cannot confirm these details yet. The information I have is speculative, and as soon as I obtain verified facts, I will provide an update."

Additionally, Bala Fwangje, the representative for Mangu South Constituency in the Plateau Assembly, corroborated the incident.

According to his account, he stated, "At approximately 11 pm, we received a distress call regarding the intrusion of herdsmen into Chisu and Bwai communities. This morning, we learned that approximately 15 individuals lost their lives, houses were destroyed, and properties were set ablaze. However, I am still in the process of gathering comprehensive information to obtain the full details of the incident."

Attempts to contact DSP Alfred Alabo, the spokesperson for the Plateau Police, proved unsuccessful as efforts to reach him were unfruitful.
