The Governor of visits Akeredolu's family to offer condolences
On Friday, Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State visited the residence of the late Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, in the Jericho area of Ibadan, Oyo State, to convey condolences. The governor was accompanied by the governor-elect of the state, Ahmed Ododo, and was received by Akeredolu's widow, Betty, as disclosed by the Chief Press Secretary, Onogwu Mohammed, in a statement to journalists.
The statement quoted Governor Bello acknowledging the impactful journey of Akeredolu, both in private and public spheres, and expressing that he left an indelible mark on humanity.
Bello stated, "While we were in Lagos attending the NGF's meeting and paying a Christmas visit to President Bola Tinubu, we received the news of the demise of our elder brother and senior colleague, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN."
"Your spouse was not just a fellow governor but also a statesman whose wisdom and benevolent counsel greatly enriched our leadership, particularly within the Governors Forum and the democratic institution in Nigeria.
"This profound loss profoundly affects us, the residents of Ondo State, as well as the entire nation. I have chosen to initiate this early visit to convey my sincere condolences to you and your family during this sorrowful period."
"May the heavens embrace my brother's soul with the same generosity and kindness he consistently extended to humanity over the years."
Bello praised the late Akeredolu's prominent position as a luminary in Africa's legal landscape, recognizing his steadfast commitment to promoting justice, upholding the rule of law, and strengthening democratic institutions in Nigeria.
In return, Betty expressed gratitude to the governor for taking the time to convey his condolences.
