Stop sending money home, Canada-based Nigerian doctor advises diasporans
A Nigerian doctor based in Canada, known as Dr. Zo, has sparked discussions on social media after advising Nigerians living abroad to think twice about sending money back to Nigeria.
In a widely shared video, Dr. Zo conveyed his view that Nigerians residing in the country have a more enjoyable lifestyle than those living overseas.
He pointed out the liveliness of Nigeria and encouraged those in the diaspora to reconsider their financial contributions.
Expressing his admiration for Lagos, he remarked, “When you live in the West and are earning money while sending remittances to anyone in Nigeria, just know that the person is living a better life than you; they are having more fun than you.”
Reflecting on his recent trips, he added, “Nigeria is an amazing place; in fact, we should pray for this government to improve because the jollof rice here is unmatched anywhere else in the world.”
Dr. Zo also shared his intentions to invest in a property in Nigeria, citing the country’s special allure. He mentioned, “As soon as I leave, I will secure my house in Nigeria. I hope the nation improves so I can return and enjoy life with everyone here. Anyone I send money to in Nigeria now, I will tell them, ‘This is a mountain going to Muhammad.’ You all are having a better time than we are.”
In a subsequent video, Dr. Zo reaffirmed his opinion, highlighting the contrasts between living abroad and in Nigeria. He stated, “I’ve spent considerable time abroad, visited four continents, and I work as a leading medical professional in Canada. But after just a day or two here, I still stand by my opinion. Even the food here is superior—better.”
He concluded, “If I could find someone to pay me even 20% of my current earnings, I would relocate back to Nigeria. This life is wonderful. You get to be with your people, enjoying the rich culture and vibrancy.”
