Stop reporting police misconduct on social media, IG tells Nigerians

Nigeria's Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has urged citizens to report police misconduct through the Police Complaints Response Unit instead of social media. This call to action aims to prevent misinformation and protect the police force's integrity. Egbetokun emphasized the importance of transparency and accountability within the force, acknowledging the media's crucial role in this effort

At the PPROs/Police Communication Experts' Conference in Asaba, Delta State, Egbetokun stressed that social media can spread unverified information, creating false perceptions. He encouraged the public to use established channels for reporting grievances.

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State also spoke at the conference, highlighting the challenges of policing in states like Delta and Lagos. He praised Egbetokun's capabilities, citing his experience as Chief Security Officer to former Lagos Governor Bola Tinubu.
