Outcry: Osun Speaker and PDP Demand Justice for Alleged Attack on Adeleke

The Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Adewale Egbedun, strongly denounced the assault on Governor Ademola Adeleke at the Osogbo Eid prayer ground on Wednesday, labeling it as barbaric and deplorable.

Egbedun not only condemned the attack perpetrated by suspected political thugs but also urged security agencies to swiftly apprehend the culprits responsible for this heinous act.

Acknowledging the Governor's fortunate escape, which he attributed to divine grace and the bravery of his security personnel, the Speaker cautioned that launching a violent assault against a state governor constituted a severe crime with grave consequences.

In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Tiamiyu Olamide, the Speaker expressed deep concern over the assault on Governor Adeleke, emphasizing that the attack was not only directed at the Governor but also at the people of the state.

The Speaker conveyed his shock and distress, stating that he never imagined anyone would dare to perpetrate such a brazen act of aggression against a sitting Governor within a sacred place designated for worship.

He vehemently condemned the attack on Governor Adeleke, highlighting that it went beyond a personal affront but constituted an affront against the entire population of Osun state, whom the Governor represents and leads. The Speaker issued a stern warning that such actions would not be tolerated under any circumstances.

"The attempt to inflict the pain of defeat, as evidenced by today's attack, is a grave miscalculation that will forever burden your future political endeavors," he declared.

Likewise, the Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has added its voice to the chorus of condemnations.

In a statement issued by the state's party Chairman, Sunday Bisi, he characterized the attack as a deliberate plot to destabilize the state.

While cautioning Senator Ajibola Basiru to be mindful of his actions, Bisi called upon the police to address this perilous situation promptly, as it has the potential to push the state to the brink of chaos.

He issued a stern warning, cautioning that any efforts to disrupt the current state of peace within the state would be met with firm resistance.

Bisi extended sincere apologies to the Muslim Ummah in the state for the violence that occurred at the sacred ground. He assured them that adequate measures would be implemented to prevent any recurrence of such a sacrilegious incident in the future.

The Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, reportedly experienced an attack at the Oke-Baale Eid prayer ground in Osogbo.

Different narratives surround the attack, with one suggesting an assassination attempt on the governor's life, while another dispels the rumor and describes the incident as a misunderstanding arising from a disagreement over seating arrangements between the governor and Senator Ajibola Basiru.
