Osimhen hails Gala fans after Fenerbahce win
Victor Osimhen has praised Galatasaray fans following their emphatic 3-1 Turkish Super Lig Istanbul derby against Fenerbahce on Saturday.Osimhen missed Galatasaray's win over Gaziantep on Wednesday, but he returned to action in the highly anticipated derby against Jose Mourinho's side at Ulker Stadyumu Fenerbahce Sukru Saracoglu Spor Kompleksi.
Despite not scoring, the Nigerian provided the assist that gave his team a two-goal lead, and the Lions won thanks to goals from Gabriel Sara, Dries Mertens, and an own goal from Dominik Livakovic.
Osimhen, who performed admirably, thanked Galatasaray fans for their unwavering support in a post on social media following the game.
"Yesterday's (Saturday) victory would not have been possible without the incredible support of Galatasaray fans around the world. "Your cheers gave us the strength to fight," Osimhen told Fanatik.
"You are not just spectators in the stands; you are an important part of this team. Thank you for believing in us. "We walk together.
The game between the two title contenders is regarded as one of the world's biggest derbies, with the neighbours winning a total of 43 Super Lig titles.
Last season, Galatasaray won the Super Lig with 102 points, three ahead of Fenerbahce.
Prior to Saturday's match, the champions led Fenerbahce by five points after five games. Mourinho had hoped to close the gap on the champions, but the home team's defeat increased the gap to eight points.
After providing two crucial assists in as many games since joining Galatasaray on loan from Napoli earlier this month, Osimhen will look to score his first goal for the club when they face PAOK in a Europa League match on Wednesday.
