Nigeria receives $27m in new humanitarian aid
The US government has announced $27 million in humanitarian aid for Nigeria as part of its Sub-Saharan African aid effort.The US Mission in Nigeria issued a statement on Wednesday via its official X handle.
According to the international agency, the $27 million was part of the $536 million disclosed by Uzra Zeya, the US undersecretary of state, a few days earlier.
"This week, @UnderSecretaryStateJ announced nearly $536 million in additional humanitarian funding across Africa, including $27 million for Nigeria. The United States is committed to continuing our partnership in providing life-saving assistance and protection to vulnerable people and generous host communities across the continent," the statement read.
Uzra Zeya, the US Under Secretary of State, announced a total of $536 million in life-saving humanitarian aid to Sub-Saharan African countries.
Zeya revealed this after visiting Ethiopia on a humanitarian mission in the region.
"Today, I am pleased to announce nearly $536 million in new humanitarian assistance from the United States. This assistance, which was coordinated with host country governments and international partners, aimed to create long-term solutions to alleviate suffering, build resilience, and resolve the plight of displaced and vulnerable people.
"To the generous host communities and our vital partners across the continent and around the world, thank you for protecting the most vulnerable so that all can live in dignity," Zeya wrote in a prepared statement.
The United States and Nigeria maintain close ties in trade and other sectors.
