Nigeria, Bahrain establish formal diplomatic ties

Nigeria and the Kingdom of Bahrain have officially established diplomatic relations following a visit to Manama by Nigeria's Foreign Minister, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar.

According to a statement issued on Sunday by the Minister of Foreign Affairs' spokesman, Alkasim AbdulKadir, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar visited Manama, Bahrain, and held bilateral discussions with his Bahraini counterpart, Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani.

He stated that the discussions focused on strengthening diplomatic relations, attracting foreign direct investment from Bahrain, expanding trade and investment opportunities, and improving cooperation in the oil and gas sector, with a particular emphasis on onshore projects and the development of Nigeria's 8th train LNG.

He added that the ministers also talked about training programs for Nigerian diplomats and cooperation in multilateral forums.

"The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, visited Manama, the Kingdom of Bahrain, and held bilateral discussions with his Bahraini counterpart, Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani.

"The meeting aimed to strengthen diplomatic relations, facilitate foreign direct investment from Bahrain, expand trade and investment opportunities, and foster cooperation in the oil and gas sectors, with a focus on onshore projects and the development of the 8th train LNG.

The ministers also discussed the training of Nigerian diplomats and collaboration in multilateral forums.

"The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, visited Manama, the Kingdom of Bahrain, and held bilateral discussions with his Bahraini counterpart, Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani.

"The meeting focused on strengthening diplomatic relations, facilitating foreign direct investment from Bahrain, enhancing trade and investment opportunities, and fostering cooperation in the oil and gas sectors, with particular emphasis on onshore projects and the development of the 8th train LNG," according to a statement.

He revealed that both ministers had signed a Joint Communiqué, which officially established diplomatic relations between Nigeria and Bahrain.

He emphasised that this agreement is a significant step towards strengthening bilateral ties and improving mutual cooperation.

He explained that this development is consistent with Bahrain's ongoing efforts to strengthen international partnerships. He mentioned that Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani recently presided over the third meeting of the national committee to monitor the implementation of the Bahrain Summit Initiatives, emphasising the kingdom's commitment to global collaboration.
