Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala reappointed WTO DG

Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Nigeria's former finance minister, has been reappointed as the World Trade Organisation's Director-General for a second term.

The WTO reported this in an X post on Friday.

Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the organization's first female and African leader, will take over in 2025.

"WTO members today agreed to give incumbent Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala a second term as Director-General of the WTO," the group declared.

The 70-year-old Nigerian economist, the only contender for the job, received support from all 166 WTO members, including the United States, securing the position for the second time.
