Ministry of Interior raked in over N6bn in revenue – Minister

Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo revealed that the Ministry of Interior collected more than N6 billion in revenue in 2024.

This was accomplished through a variety of services offered to Nigerians, including expatriate quotas, marriage services, citizenship applications, and the registration of places of worship.

Dr. Tunji-Ojo offered a detailed breakdown of the N6 billion in income produced, highlighting the various services that contributed to the total.

"Out of the N6 billion, N3,220,035 was generated from the expatriate quota, N2,409,282 from marriage services, N392,790 from citizenship while N12,350 was raked in from a place of worship," according to him.

The minister also reviewed ongoing promotion and recruitment programs within the Ministry of Interior's agencies, emphasizing efforts to strengthen the workforce and improve the ministry's ability to provide services more effectively.

In 2023, 32,640 officers and workers were promoted across the Ministry of Interior's four service agencies: the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, the Nigeria Immigration Service, the Federal Fire Service, and the Nigeria Correctional Service.

"2023 was higher because of the backlog of promotion which we have cleared, as there is currently no backlog in any of the services," Tunji-Ojo told journalists.

"In 2023, NIS recruited 5,283 personnel, NSCDC recruited 3,000 while the FFS in 2024 announced the recruitment of 2,500 firefighters."

The 2024 promotion exercise included 20,851 workers, including major promotions across the Ministry of Interior's services.

The minister emphasized the ministry's commitment to gender equality, disclosing that 35% of recruits in its most recent recruitment campaigns were women.
