Fubara removes Rivers traditional council chairman
Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has removed Eze Sergeant Awuse from his position as Chairman of the State Supreme Council of Traditional Rulers. The governor made the news on Friday during a special meeting with traditional rulers at the Banquet Hall of Government House in Port Harcourt, the state capital.
Fubara then appointed Eze Chike Wodo as the new chairman of the council, stating that the position could not be vacant.
Speaking at the meeting, the governor stated that Awuse has been unable to properly head the council for some time due to his apparent involvement in the state's ongoing issue.
Fubara regarded Awuse as an unstable individual, pointing out that he has been using double standards since the state's political crisis.
Fubara responded, "It's as if your chairman has run away. Maybe when your chairman is ready, he will contact me. If he receives approval, he can then attend the meeting.
"But you already know his position. He is not a steady individual or character. He cannot say one thing in the morning and then another in the evening.
"That is why he decided to cover his head. You must suffer with him until God helps us resolve your dilemma. "By God's grace, it will be resolved soon."
It should be noted that the former governor of the state, Nyesom Wike, replaced the then-Chairman of the Council, King Dandeson Douglas Jaja, with Awuse.
However, in the aftermath of the political crisis, the State House of Assembly, led by Martin Amaewhule, passed legislation prohibiting Fubara from meddling with the leadership of the traditional council.
