Former Kaduna Governor El-Rufai Absent as Son Bello Ties Knot with Second Wife
In a noticeable absence, former Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State was not present as his eldest son, Bello, exchanged vows with his second wife, Aisha Habibu Shuaibu, on Saturday.
The preceding week saw the Senate granting confirmation to 45 of the 48 ministerial nominees presented by President Bola Tinubu. Yet, El-Rufai, alongside two other nominees, Stella Okotete from Delta and Danladi Abubakar from Taraba, did not receive confirmation. The Senate attributed this delay to awaiting security clearance for these nominees.
Reports indicated that shortly after meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the presidential villa in Abuja on Tuesday, the former governor departed for Europe via Egypt.
Bello, who currently chairs the House of Representatives Committee on Banking Regulations, celebrated a private Nikah ceremony with Aisha Habibu Shuaibu. Aisha is the daughter of Col. Habibu Shuaibu, a former Military Administrator for Plateau and Niger States. The Nikah ceremony took place in Abuja on Saturday.
In line with Hausa tradition, Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna, whom Bello served as a legislative aide while the governor was a senator, assumed the role of the father of the day. Traditionally, the Wakili (representative) of the groom's father typically receives the bride, while the waliyyi, representing the bride's family, gives her away.
Hajia Hadiza Isma El-Rufai, Bello's mother, was present at the event. However, it is notable that the tradition followed did not entail the attendance of the parents of the couple at the wedding.
Governor Uba Sani expressed his joy in fulfilling the role of the father of the day and shared pictures from the event on his verified social media account. His post conveyed his warm wishes to the newlyweds, Hon. Bello El-Rufai and Aisha Shuaibu, for a happy married life.
