Family Granted Permission to Bury Deceased Rivers Graduate, Awaits Autopsy Findings
Rebekah Sekidika, a first-class graduate of Benson Idahosa University, Benin City, Edo State, tragically passed away during a medical procedure at Paragon Clinics and Image Diagnosis in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. Her family, including her father Sampson Sekidika, an employee of Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas, has obtained police approval to proceed with her burial.
Sampson Sekidika alleges that his 24-year-old daughter's death was a result of negligence and incompetence on the part of the medical staff involved in the procedure on February 2, 2024. Rebekah had secured admission for an MSc program in the United Kingdom and was set to travel shortly before the unfortunate incident that led to her untimely demise. Mr. Sekidika is seeking justice for his daughter.
He mentioned that an autopsy has been conducted on Rebekah's remains, and while awaiting the results, the family has received police authorization to carry out her burial.
He remarked, "On Thursday, an autopsy was conducted, and samples were dispatched to two separate medical centers for toxicology testing. Comprehensive reports will be provided within a month, encompassing all the available results.
"I submitted a request to the Deputy Commissioner of Police at the State Criminal and Investigation Department for the release of the body to the family for burial. The police have granted approval for the burial.
"The interment is scheduled for March 2, 2024, at the Vaults and Gardens Cemetery in Port Harcourt."
Sekidika firmly asserted that beyond the burial of Rebekah's body, he is determined to relentlessly pursue the matter until those responsible for her demise are identified, apprehended, punished, and all necessary measures are taken to secure justice for her.
