FRSC Issues Warning on Consequences for Making or Receiving Calls While Driving

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has issued a stern warning to drivers against making or receiving phone calls while on the road, stating that those found using any ear gadget for calls risk facing five years in jail. The FRSC emphasized that it is illegal to engage in phone calls while driving, irrespective of the wireless gadget used for communication.

Bisi Kazeem, the Corps Public Education Officer, stressed the need for drivers to maintain total concentration on the road, citing Regulation 166(1) that deems phone calls using earphones or any other means as illegal. Kazeem highlighted that driving requires 100% concentration, and any form of distraction, including phone calls, poses a risk to the driver's safety.

He added that public enlightenment campaigns also discourage drivers from engaging in activities like talking to passengers, as any distraction can lead to accidents. While certain actions may not be explicitly prohibited by law, the FRSC emphasizes the importance of avoiding any activity that could divert a driver's attention and potentially result in accidents.
